ZOOM WHITENING:
Dull, stained teeth are not attractive. You may be able to improve the appearance of your teeth using modern tooth whitening methods such as in-office whitening, at-home procedures and products, and whitening toothpaste. Whitening procedures actually bleach the tooth enamel to remove the objectionable color. In-office or chair-side whitening is a 30-minute to one-hour procedure done by Dr. Patel. A whitening agent is applied to your teeth after your gums are protected with either a protective gel or a rubber shield. Results will be seen after just one office visit, although additional visits may be needed in order to achieve maximum whitening. A variety of at-home tooth whitening products are available. Dr. Patel can make custom-fitted plastic whitening trays for your teeth. He will provide special whitening gel to be used for a couple of hours per day over the course of a few days. Similar products are available over-the-counter. Talk to Dr. Patel if irritating side effects occur - such as teeth and gum sensitivity or soft tissue irritation. All toothpastes remove some surface stains from your teeth. Special whitening toothpastes contain special chemicals or polishing agents that provide additional stain removal. They cannot, however, change the color of your teeth. INVISALIGN®:
Invisalign® is the invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces, using a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets. Invisalign® has been proven effective in clinical research and in orthodontic practices nationwide. In fact, over 70% of all U.S. orthodontists are certified to treat patients with Invisalign®. You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position your orthodontist or dentist has prescribed. You'll visit your orthodontist or dentist about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case. For more information about Invisalign®, please call our office at (845) 986-4601, or visit www.Invisalign.com. BONDING: Bonding is used to repair chipped teeth and fill gaps between teeth. A special composite resin that is tooth-colored (shaded to match your teeth) is used. Dr. Patel applies the material to the tooth that needs repair and "cures" or hardens it using an intense ultraviolet light. Over time, the bonding material may break down and need to be replaced. A longer lasting alternative is porcelain laminates or veneers. PORCELAIN CROWNS: A crown, or cap, covers a tooth and restores it to its normal shape and size. Crowns are used to attach a bridge, to cover a dental implant, or to cover a badly damaged tooth. After decay is removed and the tooth is cleaned, an impression or mold is made. This is used to make a model of the tooth, which is then sent to a dental lab. At the lab, a crown is created, matching your tooth color. Dr. Patel will cement the finished crown in place. DENTAL IMPLANTS :
In most cases, general dentists only restore the crown portion of an implant. Patients generally have to consult with another doctor to have the actual implant placed in the jaw. Dr. Patel is one of the few general dentists specially trained in implant placement, which means that he can handle dental implant cases from start to finish. This means that our dental implant patients do not have to contact and work with other doctors to complete their implant procedures. DENTURES AND BRIDGES:
Dentures and bridges replace missing teeth. A bridge, or partial denture, can be either fixed or removable. Bridges or partial dentures can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. They can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials. A fixed bridge can be bonded onto surrounding teeth for support. Or it can be attached to dental implants. Dentures are used when all of your natural teeth have been lost, either due to periodontal disease, tooth decay, or injury. Dentures are removable. Proper oral hygiene is still very important with full dentures. Dr. Patel and his staff will teach you how to care for your dentures and your gums. |
